what we believe

The Nature of God

We believe in one living and true God who is the Creator of all things. He exists eternally in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is holy, loving, merciful, and gracious. (Romans 1:20; Matthew 28:19; Deuteronomy 4:35)

God the Father

We believe in the Person of God the Father, an infinite, eternal, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Exodus 34:5-7)

Jesus Christ

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe that He is both God and man, and is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, rose again bodily, and ascended into heaven to prove His victory and empower us for life. We await His personal, visible return to earth. (John 1:1, 14; John 10:30; Matthew 1:20; Philippians 2:5-7; 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 1:19)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Person of the Holy Spirit, Who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every true believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide. (John 14:26; 16:8-11; Romans 8:14; 1 Peter 1:2)

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives. It is the foundation upon which this church operates and is the basis for which this church is governed. We believe that the Word of God supersedes any human law that is contrary to scripture.

Creation

We believe that the heavens and earth and all original life forms, including humanity, were made by the specific immediate creative acts of God as described in the account of origins presented in Genesis. (Genesis 1-2; Psalm 102:25; Matthew 19:4)

Mankind

We believe that man was initially created by God in His image and likeness, morally upright and perfect, but fell by voluntary transgression. We believe that sin has separated each one of us from God and His purpose for our lives. (Genesis 1:26-31; 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21)

Salvation

We believe that God saves on the basis of faith, those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. In order to receive forgiveness and the ‘new birth’ we must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, repent, and submit to His will for our lives. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 10:9-10)

Satan

We believe in the existence of the devil who, by his influence, brought about the downfall of man, and now seeks to destroy the faith of every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (Genesis 3:1-15; Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13; John 13:2; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8)

The Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of its great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the general assembly and church of the first-born whose names are written in heaven. (Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:22; Hebrews 12:23)

Holiness and Good Works

We believe that all who are saved are ‘new creations’ in Christ Jesus. We are called to live in purity and holiness in every aspect of our lives, shunning worldliness, and abiding in the commandments of the Lord. We also believe in the importance of good works, and that we are to be fervent in prayer, generous with our possessions, and zealous in serving the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 2:14; Hebrews 12:14)

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances for the church: (a) full immersion water baptism of believers, and (b) the Lord’s Supper. (Matthew 28:19; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26) We also believe that the Lord Jesus Christ validated the ordinance of marriage. (Matthew 19:4-5 and John 2:1-11)

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe in the present day operation of all of the Biblical gifts of the Spirit, which are to be exercised according to the guidelines of Scripture. (1 Corinthians 12-14)

Family

We believe that marriage and family is ordained by God, and that we are called to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28; 2:21-24; 9:1; 28:3). We believe that marriage was intended by God to be a permanent, lifelong relationship between a man and a woman. We believe that children are a heritage from the Lord and a blessing from His hand. We are therefore accountable to Him for raising, shaping, and preparing them for a life of service to His Kingdom and to humanity. (Ephesians 6:4)

The Return of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised. We eagerly await His personal, visible return, the establishment of His kingdom, and the final judgment. We also believe in the Rapture of the Church where all believers will meet the Lord in the air and be taken out of this world prior to the Tribulation that will come upon the earth. (John 14:2-4)

Eternity

We believe that our eternal destination of either Heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord, while those who reject Jesus’ free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from the Lord. (John 5:28-29)
