“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). With these words Jesus clearly communicated to His Church through the ages that He seeks disciples, and not just converts. For this reason we give great emphasis to making and training disciples at Calvary Chapel. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) has been equipping men and women to serve the Lord in the local church since 2004. Our aim is to “equip God’s people for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4:12).
What is DTS?
DTS has been designed as a part-time Bible and Ministry Training Course for people who are working or studying full-time. Classes and subjects are aimed at growing students in their understanding of God’s word, in their personal walk with Christ, and equipping them to serve Him. If you would like to attend Bible College, but don’t have the time – DTS is for you!
What is the Format?
DTS consists of 3 semesters and 2 additional graduate semesters. A semester is spans over 4 months, with classes once a month on a Saturday from 9am-1pm. We start the day off with a time of worship and devotions, before splitting up into the respective semester-groups. Classes are presented by various pastors and teachers from the church in an interactive style to encourage participation by the students. A workbook is provided which contains all the lectures for the day.
During the month between classes students work on 2 self-study assignments. The first assignments consists of listening to mp3 Bible Studies through a particular New Testament letter (1st Semester – Romans; 2nd Semester – Galatians and Ephesians; 3rd Semester – Hebrews; Graduates – Acts). Students take notes of the Bible studies to be handed in at the next class. The second assignment is a prescribed book that students read and write a report on.
Students are also required to participate in an evangelistic outreach twice during their semester. These outreaches are held every second week by a team from the church in Long Street on a Friday evenings.
